Prerequisites: Children must be able to independently float on their back, swim a short distance comfortably, and retrieve dive rings from the bottom of the pool with teacher assistance.
Description: Children will learn to roll on their back for breaths and return to kicking for movement, building them up to swimming across the pool. They will gain the fine motor skills necessary to learn the strokes. We find, if the strokes are introduced before this, it can hold them back in the future. We also use the introduction of dolphin to incorporate the entire body. Safety skills include swimming to the bottom for rings and learning to swim without goggles.
