Recreational Beginner Gymnastics Levels 1-3:

Grade(s): 1-12                                                                   Meetings per week: 1 (1 hour session)

            Gymnastics training Lessons focus on the fundamental skills of the sport for girls and boys. Classes are divided into sections to include Floor Exercise, Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Trampoline. Boy’s classes will include Parallel Bars and Rings. Skill training includes emphasis on handstands, rolling, shaping, back bends, splits and cartwheeling. A portion of the session is devoted to strength training and conditioning for aerobic and cardiovascular benefit. Athletic safety skills are taught weekly. Students are in skill level appropriate groups of 8 to 1 student/teacher ratio. Students are offered the opportunity to participate in a “mock meet” during the winter session. A written skill level evaluation is produced for the family twice each season.

Core Training Skills on Floor Exercise and Uneven Bars for Level 1-3

            Level One:  In Level one, students will be mastering forward rolls, bridges and cartwheels on Floor Exercise. Emphasis will be made on body positions along with proper start and finishes along with safety drills for each new skill. Beginner Bar skills will include chin holds, front supports, glide swings and other upper body strengthening skills.

              Level Two: In Level Two, students will be mastering backward rolls, tip ups, back bends and kickovers. Emphasis will be made on body positions along with proper start and finishes along with safety drills for each new skill. Level two core bar skills will include casting, gliding along with many other upper body strengthening skills.

              Level Three: In Level Three, students will be mastering back bends, kickovers, round off and handstands. Emphasis will be made on body positions along with proper start and finishes along with safety drills for each new skill. Level three core bar skills will include horizontal casting, pullovers, gliding and swinging along with many other upper body strengthening skills.
